We are committed to safeguarding the privacy of our website visitors. In this policy we explain how we will treat your personal information.

Collecting personal information

When you visit our website, the communication data of the requesting computer, the web pages you visit on our site, the date and the duration of the visit, the data identifying the type of browser and operating system used, and the website from which you visit us are temporarily stored by default by our web servers for the purposes of system security. Any other personal details, such as your name, your address, telephone number or email address, are not captured unless you provide this information voluntarily, for example when registering with our website, when completing a survey, when participating in a competition, when requesting information or when entering into a contract with us.

This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. ("Google"). Google Analytics uses "cookies", which are text files placed on your computer to help the website analyse how visitors use the site. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. In case IP-anonymisation is activated on this website, your IP address will be truncated within the area of Member States of the European Union or other parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases the whole IP address will be first transferred to a Google server in the USA and truncated there. Google will use this information on behalf of the operator of this website for the purpose of evaluating your use of the website, compiling reports on website activity for website operators and providing other services relating to website activity and Internet usage. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings in your browser, however please note that if you do this you may not be able to use the full functionality of this website. You can also opt-out from being tracked by Google Analytics with effect for the future by downloading and installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on for your current web browser: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Using, disclosing and distributing personal information

We use the personal data provided by you exclusively for technical administration of the website, for the fulfilment of your requests – which as a rule means to process any contract concluded with you – or to reply to any queries you may have, or in the context of your participation in a competition.

Only if you have given us your consent beforehand or if you – subject to it being provided for under statutory regulations – have not raised an objection, do we also use these data for product-related surveys and for purposes of marketing.

Your personal data are not disclosed, distributed, sold or communicated in any other way to third parties unless it is necessary in order to fulfill a contract or you have given your express consent. For example, when you order products from us, it may be necessary to disclose your address and order data to our carriers.

If disclosure of your personal data is necessary to render a service or to respond to an inquiry, we will take all technical and organisational steps to ensure that legal obligations under data privacy laws are met. Ames GmbH is under obligation to comply with the legal provisions applicable to data protection, to treat your personal information in a confidential manner and to delete your personal data as soon as they are no longer needed.

Personal information from children

As the protection of children’s privacy is of great importance to us, we do not knowingly collect, process or use personal information from children under the age of 18. If you as parent or legal guardian learn that your children have given us any personal information, you can use the addresses provided in Terms & Conditions to contact us and request the deletion of this information.

Use of Facebook plugins

This website uses social plugins ("plugins") from the social network facebook.com which is operated by Facebook Inc., 1601 S. California Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94304, USA (“Facebook”).

When you visit a webpage on our website that contains this plugin, a connection is made to Facebook's webservers which then instructs your web browser to display the plugin on that webpage. In this way information about which of our webpages you have visited is passed on to Facebook. If you are a Facebook member and are also logged in, Facebook will associate this information with your personal Facebook account. When using the plugin functionality (for example by clicking the 'like' button or adding a comment) this information will also be associated with your Facebook account. This can only be avoided by logging out of Facebook before using the plugin's features.
Additional information on how Facebook gathers and uses the data, as well as information on your pertinent rights and how you can protect your privacy can be found on Facebook's privacy pages.

Use of cookies

We use cookies on different pages in order to make our website more attractive to visitors and to enable the use of certain functions. Cookies are small text files that are placed on your computer. Most of the cookies used by us are deleted from your hard drive at the end of your browsing session (these are called session cookies). Other cookies remain on your computer and enable us to identify your computer on your next visit (these are called permanent cookies). These cookies mean that you will be greeted with your user name, that you do not have to re-enter your details for future orders and they make it easier for you to complete forms. Our partner companies are not allowed to use cookies to collect, process or use personal data via our website.

Disclosure of personal information to third parties

Liability for links

With its ruling of 12 May 1998 (312 O 85/98) - "Liability for Links" - the Hamburg Regional Court held that anyone including a link may also share liability for the content of the linked page. This can only be prevented by expressly dissociating oneself from such content. Ames GmbH hereby expressly dissociates itself from all the content of every page linked to (insert ames URL) and emphasises that neither does it have any influence on the design and content of the linked pages, nor does it adopt such content. If the linked pages include content that is offensive or illegal and this comes to the knowledge of Ames GmbH, such links will be removed immediately.
